Machine Learning
Machine Learning is the use and development of computer systems that are able to learn and adapt without following explicit instructions, by using algorithms and statistical models to analyse and draw inferences from patterns in data. It is seen as a sub-set of artificial intelligence.
A number of companies are starting to apply machine learning techniques to asset data collection.
- Retina Visions for example is using computer vision technology /machine learning to automate road asset inventory collection.
- Vaisala is another example using computer vision for object/ defect and inventory detection.
- KartaView uses computer vision to extract signs and mapping purposes and there are many other examples (for pipes, roads, signs, line marking etc)
